So the party is over and we are all back to work. The Christmas holiday is all but a distant memory!
I find January one of the hardest months. I feel quite down that another year is over and the thought of a brand new year feels slightly overwhelming. This year I want to make a change. I want to try and beat those January blues and try to remain as positive as possible.
So I have put together a list of things I will be doing to help me banish those Winter blues. Hopefully, they will help you too.
We all know that exercise in any form is a great way to ward off any negative thoughts or feelings. I notice a big change in my mood when I haven’t exercised.
It can really help me not only feel positive but feel good about myself too. If your not really a fan of the gym, there are loads of great workout videos available on YouTube so you can find a routine you enjoy. The workouts that I enjoy are the ones from The Body Coach.
December is the time when all diets and healthy eating go out the window, after many days of eating rubbish, can make me feel a bit rubbish too! So this January I’m really going to make an effort and eat well and to eat healthy as I find I feel more energized when I’m eating well!
Getting plenty of sleep is something I always really struggle with. Lack of sleep can affect how I am during the day. I always wake up feeling really tired and all look I forward to going back to sleep, when I get home. I can sometimes feel quite snappy if I haven’t got enough sleep.
I’m going to try and not watch TV too late at night, not to spend too long on my computer after a certain time and to also switch off my phone, so I don’t get caught up in any social media rabbit holes.
Treat yourself – pamper nights
I love a good pamper night, and it’s such a good way to spend a cold winter evening inside, pampering yourself, either with a long bubble bath or a facial. I love doing facials or painting my nails while I’m watching a chick flick or watching Friends. I think its the perfect way to help you feel better after a long day.
January can be quite a long month and a very quiet month. Everyone seems to just hibernate for a bit to get over one massive Christmas hangover. When you have nothing booked in, it can get you down because you have nothing to look forward to.
Book that long overdue weekend away with your girls or a few date nights with your boyfriend. Make sure you have a few events planned so you have something to be excited about. Trust me January will go a lot quicker too.
Take cold showers
After listening to the Emma Gunns podcast, and her series called the 26 habits, she talks about the benefits of having cold showers. They can help with lifting your mood by helping your body produce antidepressant hormones, stimulate the immune system and help to prevent colds.
I’ve just started finishing my warm shower with a quick burst of cold water, I’m trying to build it up slowly to at least a minute. I’m really interested to see if it can make a difference in my mood.
So here are some tips on how you can banish those January blues. I hope this has helped? Remember if you are feeling down this month you aren’t alone. It’s can be a tough month, but we are halfway through now! See you on the next one xx
