My new year resolutions for a better 2019

My New year resolutions for a better 2019

It’s that time again, a new year has begun! Hello, 2019! I always feel a real mix of emotions around about now. The Christmas holiday is well and truly over.

We have to be out of bed at a reasonable hour and head back to work! Dare I say it, I always feel a little sad, that Christmas went by in such a flash and that another year has gone. Yesterday I was getting quite reflective, I even read over my resolutions post from 2018.

I always look at the things that I haven’t achieved and I get quite down about it. Something I tend to do every year! This year I really want to stop doing this! I really want to head into a new year feeling positive with a brand new mindset. It’s a goal I really want to achieve, as I find January quite a hard month to get through.

So in an attempt to start 2019 feeling positive, I have put together a list of Resolutions that I think will help me kick start a positive mindset.

Be more selfish

Ok, bear with me, this one at first glance may sound a bit weird, why on earth does she want to be selfish you might ask? Well here is what I mean. We are all guilty of getting bogged down with the daily grind or the rat race as my friend calls it, and seeing friends and going to the gym, we sometimes forget about us.

That’s why I think it is important to be a little bit selfish and just take time for you. I’m going to make sure I rest properly and take some time out on my own. Going for a beach walk or going to a coffee shop and reading a book, or having a chilled night in with a facial, these little things really help me unwind and relax when it all gets too hectic.

Set realistic goals

With any new year, it lets us press the reset button and set some new goals, (some being more achievable than others). Don’t get me wrong I love setting goals but I have been guilty of setting goals that are bit unachievable and then I get upset with myself when I don’t reach them. So this year I am going to set little goals that make up a few bigger goals and see how I get on. As I said earlier I’m focusing on the little things to the bigger picture.

My New year resolutions for a better 2019

Being more active

A couple of years ago I was quite dedicated to going to the gym. Going at least 3-4 times a week. I was mainly doing Bodypump, Bodycombat, and BodyBalance, which I really loved. I have since got a bit lazy and I don’t go as often. Not exercising can really affect my mood in a big way, it can leave me feeling a bit down.

I really want to make a positive start by being more active. Either by going for long walks or to the gym or doing a workout at home. Not only is exercise good for my physical health it’s great for my mental health too.

Eating well

Another thing I have really let slide lately is my eating habits, December I let anything go, Chocolate, (yes please), cheese, (gimmie) and I’ve eaten a few too many tubes of Pringles, which I haven’t done for a couple of years.

Now I really want to knock the junk food on the head, by planning meals and cutting out on snacking. I really want to enjoy cooking again. When I eat more balanced meals I feel less sluggish and more energized and feel a lot better about myself too.

Switching off

This is one thing I really have to improve, I’m terrible at just switching off from technology.  I always have the best intentions of switching off my devices and reading a book, but the pull of writing that second blog post of the evening or engaging with followers on Instagram/Twitter is just too great.

I want to try and have a strict no phones/devices after 10, and read a book for a little bit before bed. This for me will be a big challenge, but I’m really going to try and stick to it, to get more sleep and switching off from social media at a reasonable hour.

Always show kindness to myself and others

I think more than ever it’s a time to be really supportive and really kind to others. Let’s face it the world can be cruel sometimes. I always keep to the saying ‘treat others how you want to be treated’. I try to remember this saying every day.

It’s not that hard to show someone a little kindness, it might not be a big deal to you, but to the person receiving that kindness, can make their day. I want to extend the kindness I show to others, to myself. I’m my own biggest critic and I want to give myself a bit of a break, and not be so hard on myself.

So that’s it for my New Years resolutions. I’m really hoping I can stick to them! They say it takes 21 days to form new habits, so let’s see what happens.
