Happy World Gin day my fellow gins lovers. Today is 10th June and to celebrate the day of gin (best day ever in my opinion) I wanted to share with you my 6 favourite gins.
So let’s get started (while I’m writing this i’m having a cheeky Friday G&T cheers)
EDINBURGH ELDERFLOWER LIQUEUR
I discovered this gin when I was in a gin bar in London. For me it’s like summer in a glass. Its light, sweet and really refreshing. Its infused with elderflowers and apparently tastes nice with Cava or Prosecco, (which I will need to try). I usually have this gin with a Fever Tree Indian Tonic Water with lime as a garnish.
This gin has been a favourite for a while, it tastes a lot softer than other traditional gins. Whitley Neill is distilled in London but uses African botanicals including extracts from the Baobab Tree. It is also distilled in a 100 year copper pot still. This gin tastes nice with Fever Tree Indian Tonic water with lime as a garnish.
This is one of my favourites gins to drink in the summer. Distilled in Scotland, Hendrick’s is distilled with Bulgarian rose and cucumber to add flavour. It’s so refreshing to have on a warm summer’s evening with Fever Tree Elderflower Tonic with cucumber as a garnish.
BLACK SHUCK SLOE GIN
I got this gin as a Birthday Present from my friends who live in Norwich. This gin is made by the The Norfolk Sloe Company. They are a family business who produce gin, fruit liqueurs and chocolate truffles. Their Black Shuck Sloe Gin is made with traditional botanicals but are distilled with Lavender and Sea Buckthorn from Norfolk. This is currently my favourite Sloe Gin, I drink it with Fever Tree’s Sicilian Lemonade with lime as a garnish.
TANQUERAY NO TEN
Tanqueray has become one of my new favourites. Named after the still number it was distilled from, which is also known as ‘Tiny Ten’. It is distilled with fresh citrus fruits, some other gin are distilled with just the peel of the citrus fruits but in this gin the whole grapefruit, orange and lime are used.
The taste is really refreshing, and is great to have during the summer. I usually pair this gin with and Indian tonic water and lime, but I also like to have it with elderflower presse. This gin is also great to use in gin based cocktails.
This gin is a new addition to my collection, I tried it quite recently at the Gin Tub in Hove. It is a very floral gin which tastes lovely with indian tonic water and strawberries as a garnish as it enhances the floral taste. It is distilled with 3 main botanicals honeysuckle ,chamomile and pomelo.
This is a great gin to drink during the summer as it is very refreshing. I am a big fan of floral gins as they taste a bit sweeter than the London Dry Gins.
So these are my favourites Gins. Do you agree? I would love to know what your favourites are in the comments below… I hope you celebrate World Gin Day with a Gin or two. Cheers my fellow gin lovers.
