Now we have rung in the new year, a lot of talk turns to resolutions and how to make 2017 ‘The best year yet’. With reinventions, and the classic phase ‘New Year New You’.
Don’t get me wrong I love that everyone wants to start the new year off so positively and on a good note, throwing away all those uneaten chocolates and starting the diet, Or beginning a particular goal from January 1st.
But are we aiming too high?, are we setting unachievable goals that we break before we have gotten through new year’s day? Why do we do it to ourselves? If we don’t achieve these goals it makes us feel like we have somehow failed. I am guilty as everyone else.
So this year I want to do it differently, I want to set a few goals that should be more achievable. Ones that I will try and stick too. I don’t want to feel that I have somehow failed before the year has begun. I want to have a positive mindset for this upcoming year.
Hopefully my goals will give you a bit of inspiration for some goals of your own.
More Time for Friends
With the pressure of work and everyday life, I feel I don’t always make enough time for friends and loved ones.
So with this in mind I would like to devote more time to calling them and spending quality time with them. I have a great group of close knit friends and I want to make more of an effort to see them and make some great memories with them in 2017.
Being Kind to Myself
I am guilty of being a bit of a perfectionist, I can be my own toughest critic. If it’s how I do my job, or comparing myself against over people’s success and feeling that I come up short or worrying about friendships and relationships, I can be really harsh on myself. I don’t think I am the only one who does this. It’s hard, especially with social media everywhere to keep up with the ‘Jones’
So this year I want to focus on positive things, I want to concentrate on what I’m doing and not compare myself to others and what they are doing. Everyone is different and go at a pace that suits them and reach certain goals when it’s right for them to do so.
I want to be more positive about what I’m doing and be happy with all the things i’m doing,at the time i’m doing them. I want to be less critical of myself.
Doing Things That Make Me Happy
Sometimes I feel that I do things to make other people happy, don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to do things that make others smile, but sometimes it is import to take time out just for yourself.
It could be spending time at the gym or doing that hobby that you really love, or trying something new? I like taking time out for me, I will go to the gym or relax in front of my favourite film or box set, or do a facial and paint my nails.
Being a Bit More Healthy
I’m not aiming for the body a Victoria’s Secret model, (That’s an unobtainable goal right there). With life being so busy it is sometimes hard to stick to a diet or a gym schedule, it’s so easy to get distracted or sometimes you just can’t be bothered. So what I am aiming for is just to be more healthy, eating right and trying to go the gym at least three times a week.
For most of last year, I was using the lean in 15 cookbooks, which I love and found so easy to follow, most meals from the book can be prepared in 15 minutes and you can cook a lot of them in advance so if I’m home late I will have a meal ready for me to eat.
And being healthy with food and exercise will also create a healthy mind as well.
So there are my 4 goals for 2017. And I’m confident that I can stick to them.
Another one I should add, is to be a bit more consistent with my posts, I want to post more regularly. And get better at writing, But as this is a hobby, I’m hoping I can keep this up.
